Fulprint celebrates 40 years of innovation, craft and community roots in York

Fulprint, one of York’s longest-established independent print specialists, is celebrating 40 years in business, marking a milestone that reflects decades of craft, creativity and commitment to the city’s community and business landscape.

Fulprint’s story began a few years before the company name appeared above a workshop. In the early 1980s, two York University students, Bob Scrase and Simon Coates, launched ‘Heslington Publications’, producing the fortnightly student freesheet ‘Time In and Out’. What started as a student venture quickly evolved. By 1985, the pair formalised the business as Fulprint, based on Main Street in Fulford.

Four decades later, one of those original student founders, Bob Scrase, still directs the company – now alongside Frankie Curran, who began his career at Fulprint as a trainee in 1989. Together, they have shepherded the business through economic cycles, rapid technological change and shifting customer needs.

Today, Fulprint‘s home is off Heslington Road on Apollo Street, just outside York’s historic city walls. Its workshop houses a large litho press, an advanced digital printer and extensive finishing equipment.

Bob Scrase, Director and Co-Founder said:“Our 40th anniversary is a proud moment. From our beginnings as a student publication to becoming a modern, full-service print business, our success has always been driven by the people here; our skilled team and our loyal customers.”

Director Frankie Curran added: “Everything we produce is made here in York by a team that genuinely cares about the craft. We’re celebrating four decades by showcasing what we do best – quality, creativity and real attention to detail. We’re so proud to be a trusted partner for organisations across the city.”

Fulprint now creates an expansive range of printed products, including bespoke chocolate wrappers, branded boxes and gift packaging, business cards, brochures, calendars, samples and mailers.

The company has continued to invest in its future. In the last three years alone, committing over £150,000 to new equipment, expanding its capabilities and enhancing the speed, quality and variety of its print solutions.
